It was June 3, a warm, sunny Sunday morning, when the doors of take-out restaurant and pasta shop Maui Pasta Company opened for the last time on Maui. After 5 years, Maui Pasta was closing up shop and moving to Scottsdale!
It had been a long, exciting, and sometimes arduous five years, and customers and well-wishers came in that day to wish them well, put a lei around their necks, and wish them “A Hui Ho!”
Founder Patricia Inman had started Maui Pasta with her husband and business partner Ron just a few short years before, but cancer took Ron quickly in February 2016. When Debra Lynch, a caring community member, offered to volunteer while Ron was in Hospice, Maui Pasta became her passion, and by mid-2016, she joined Patricia as her new business partner.
When an electrical panel fire and other lease issues arose, the two women began looking to relocate to a new kitchen on Maui. However, when no kitchen spaces opened up over a 6-month period, and an opportunity in Scottsdale blossomed, the Big Moving Adventure began!
Patricia and Debra packed up shop, box by box, and then the POD arrived! They filled every square inch of the POD and 10,000 pounds later, the POD door slid closed, and they were on their way to the Valley of the Sun!
